EVITA NEWSLETTER, Issue No1
 
Dear Reader,

This is the first issue of the EVITA Newsletter, a Newsletter that will be edited approximately every 6 months, in order to promote the results and outputs of the EVITA project.

The EVITA INTERREG IVC project is a project that builds upon various good practices developed under different regional or interregional development programs, in order to improve  the effectiveness of regional development policies in the area of the access of SMEs, to knowledge, information, e-business practices and the globalized digital economy in regions with low IT penetration. The project started as foreseen on November 2008. During the first 8 months of the project, the focus was given on the Study Visits, through which the “best policy initiatives” will be presented to all partners. 

So far (June 2009), 4 Study Visits have been implemented: 
The 1st EVITA Study Visit took place in Athens, with the purpose to present the Greek Policy Initiatives on SME support on IT and e-business, especially those deriving by GRNET. The Study Visit was held at the Ioniko Center on December 9th, with 24 attendants. The following Policy Initiatives were presented to the partners:
 
“e-business forum”: a permanent consultation mechanism for open, broad and continuous dialogue of the State with the main stakeholders from business and academia, that are connected to e-business.

“GOONLINE” : An Initiative of the Greek Ministry of Development to support SMEs to connect to the Internet and to inform SMEs of the benefits that will be obtained through Internet usage.
ELISA
: An international initiative in the area of South East Europe for improving the access to Information Society for SMEs leveraging e-Learning and close cooperation of academic and business communities. An active discussion took place, both during the presentations and afterwards.

The 2nd EVITA Study Visit took place in Barcelona, with the purpose to provide an in-depth analysis of the Catalunya Policy Initiatives on SME support on IT and e-business, deriving from the donor partner COPCA. The Study Visit was held at the ACCIO premises on May 7th, with 15 attendants.
 
The following Policy Initiatives were presented to the partners:
 
“2BDigital” : a support program to Catalan SMEs for helping them use Internet as an international marketing tool. The objective of the program is to help SMEs increase the number of commercial contacts, approach international markets, improve their main search market share, control the profitability of internet inversion, promote their international business image.  
Anella platform An ACC1Ós initiative that acts as a business knowledge and networking platform to promote and strengthen the competitiveness of Catalan businesses and a virtual meeting point for all agents involved in innovation and internationalisation processes. The platform was set up for professionals of catalan companies, associations, agencies and institutions based both in Catalonia and around the world. 
A constructive discussion took place between the partners, in order to understand deeply the various aspects of implementing the 2 initiatives.
 
The 3rd EVITA Study Visit took place in Marseilles, with the purpose to provide an in-depth analysis of the Marseille-Provence Policy Initiatives on SME support on IT and e-business, deriving from the donor partner CCIMP, in the framework of the program “Echangeurs-Marseille Provence”, The Study Visit was held at the Palais de la Bourse in Marseille on May 25th, 2009 with 13 attendants.
 
The “Echangeurs-Marseille Provence” is a local initiative that aims to develop businesses, industries and networks’competitiveness, thanks to new technologies and to promote the network of new technology actors, through support and training. After the detailed presentation, a long discussion took place on the objectives, impacts, resources, tools and main activities of the initiative.
 
The partners were then guided to the show room where the experts of the Chambre de Commerce et de l’Industrie Marseille Provence are training the interested SMEs on the last internet business applications and tools, on a constant basis.
 
 
4th Study Visit (Paris)
The 4th EVITA Study Visit took place in Paris, with the purpose to provide an in-depth analysis of the strategic vision of the Echangeurs Network on French SME support on IT and e-business. The Study Visit was held at “Chambre de Commerce et de l’Industrie de Paris - Bourse du Commerce” on May 26th, with 11 attendants.
 
The “Echangeurs Network” is a permanent network consisting of 8 nodes for the moment with the strategic aim of reinforcement of French firms competitivity through ICT usage acceleration.
 
The partners were guided to the very modern show room where the experts of the Chambre de Commerce et de l’Industrie de Paris train the interested SMEs on the last internet business applications and tools.
 
Other dissemination events
The EVITA initiative was presented in various external events, in order to better disseminate the expected outcomes and results and create a larger network among Policy Makers and SME representative organizations:

   - eLearning Baltics 2009, 17th – 19th June 2009, Rostock-Warnemünde
 
Release of the web portal  www.evita-interreg4c.eu

The EVITA web portal was released at mid-April, to be used as a cooperation tool between the partners, a point of information for local SMEs and Policy Makers, a dissemination tool, and a gate to the EVITA e-learning platform and the EVITA training material.

Other
 
The rest of the EVITA priorities are scheduled and have started to be implemented without concrete outputs so far: The trainng content, the e-learning platform, the Study on e-learning and the communication material are all under preparation.
 
The EVITA project falls under the INTERREG IVC program and is co-financed by 81,5% by the European Regional Development Funds and by 18,5% by National Funds.

The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union's Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.
